THE HISTORY OF KRAV MAGA

Imi Lichtenfeld and Krav Maga

Imi Lichtenfeld was born May 26th 1910.

his Father Samuel Lichtenfeld was Chief inspector of the Bratislava Police and a former circus acrobat also owning a gym called Hercules gymnasium, he was a great influence on Imi encouraging him to take part in various sports, he first excelled in swimming followed by gymnastics, wrestling and then boxing.

In the mid 1930's a rise in anti-semetic groups and facists lead to Imi becoming the leader of a group of Jews to block and stand up to the facist groups attacking their neighbourhood. 1940 Imi fled the nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia to Palestine by ship, in 1944 he began training fighters in his areas of expertise physical fitness, swimming, wrestling defence of knife and attack with a knife. He trained several military and police groups.

in 1948 he was made cheif instructor of physical fitness and Krav Maga at the IDF where he served for 20 years.

in 1964 Imi retired from the Israli military and began adapting and modifying Krav Maga to fit civilian needs. He trained Krav Maga instructors acccredited by him and the israli minisrty of education.

in 1978 he created the IKMA and the international krav maga federation in 1995 where he had two training centres one in Tel Aviv and the other in Netanya.

Imi Lichentenfeld died January the 9th 1998 he was 87 years old

BILLY DIXON

Billy began his martial arts journey at a very young age studying the traditional martial arts of Shotokan Karate and Tae Kwon Do winning junior competitions in both.

However, over the years his interest in the traditional style of martial arts dwindled and it wasn't until recent years that his journey really took off. Beginning to study Krav Maga under Dean Hardwick in Stevenage this hobby quickly became a great passion in his life. Adding this to his existing fitness regime felt like a natural progression and Krav Maga has spurred Billy to push himself further than ever both physically and mentally.

Being the first of Dean's students to complete his entire level one grading this allowed him to undergo the necessary qualification required to instruct which was a huge accomplishment for Billy, doing this gave him even more motivation to continue to learn and grow.

Billy's passion for martial arts makles him eager to learn whatever he can wherever he can. From studying Brazilian Jui Jitsu to Muay Thai Kick Boxing to Krav maga he is determined to expand his knowledge and then to share this knowledge with those he instructs in the future.

Billy's aspirations for the future include competing in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and MMA, to travel the world and train under some of the great minds in martial arts and to continue to grow as an instructor testing the skills he has acquired so far and developing even more in order to be a guide to those embarking on their own martial arts journeys.

AMA Krav Maga utilises techniques from all styles to allow you to effectively defend yourselves and your loved ones. you'll increase your fitness, knowledge and most of all your confidence.

Classes focus on three stages. Stand up techniques (Boxing & Muay Thai) the transition (Judo & Wrestling) and ground work (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu).

The syllabus is split in to 5 levels to make it easier to learn. we cover every possible scenario that could occur in a real life altercation so you can remain calm confident and react to any situation that may arise.

Private sessions are available to all students of all levels. whether its to tighten up techniques in the syllabus for an upcoming grading or to improve your fitness and wellbeing.
